Warcraft: The Movie Despite being crucified by several critics (http://variety.com/2016/film/reviews/warcraft-film..., the World of Warcraft feature film was a smashing success - grossing $171 million in the box office on a $160 million budget. The film did especially well in China, with a $156 million box office that beat the Star Wars $125 million open. Warcraft may even end up as the largest Chinese opening ever. Does this mean Activision/Blizzards famous gaming cash cow is back? WOW Subscription Numbers in Decline. ....I don't think so. Conclusion. This film has provided a good boost to Activision stock, and demonstrated the viability of World of Warcraft as a film franchise - look forward to sequels. However, I do not think this will be enough to save the game from its steady decline or show up very much on the ATVI income statement.
