Nintendo: A Dinosaur When I was growing up in the 90's and early 2000's Nintendo was on top of the world. Iconic games like Super Mario Bros, Super Smash Bros and Pokemon where ubiquitous. Amazing handheld consoles like the Game Boy and Nintendo DS where things every kid had to have. However, in recent years Nintendo seems to have lost its way. As I evolved from a gamer to a professional investor, I see the decline of this once powerful brand from both an entertainment and financial perspective. When did It all go wrong? Nintendo is simply unable to evolve. The company needs to accept that handhelds are obsolete, especially in this age of smart phone technology. Its games also seem to target a younger, much more casual demographic - but these are not the type of people that spend big bucks on the types of consoles and platforms the company produces. Casual gamers will just play games on their smartphones instead of putting down $200 dollars to buy a DS. Lets look at the chart. There is a horrific downward trend in revenue on every product segment the company produces: http://www.statista.com/statistics/216629/nintendo...Truly horrific situation here. Do not invest in Nintendo at any price - these guys are the IBM of the gaming industry. Terrible management with no creativity ruined a solid brand within a decade.
